A Habit Leading to a Goal

Due to its natural and cultural resources and attractions, the Alpine region is increasingly under pressure. Encouraging sustainable modes of traffic is one of the six priorities of Alpine Convention’s multiannual Work Programme for 2017–2022, the goal of which is to reduce the traffic load in the Alps.

Individuals’ unsustainable mobility habits may significantly affect the region, thereby reducing its attractiveness. We all prefer taking a walk among the trees rather than through densely parked cars. By changing mobility habits, we do more than just help decrease our carbon footprint and air pollution levels. We also contribute to a better quality of life, reduced noise levels, and less parking pressure, thereby improving the attractiveness of Alpine landscapes. We hope that this booklet will help us work together to inspire more sustainable and nature-friendly visits to the Alps and other mountain regions.

Deciding on sustainable mobility means helping the environment in a simple but effective way.

We would like to thank all of our partners who contributed to publishing the ninth edition of the booklet Timetables in the Alps: the Alpine Convention, the Slovenian Tourist Board, the Alpine Association of Slovenia, Triglav National Park, Kärnten Bus, and the local tourism organizations for Bled, Bohinj, Bovec, Idrija, Jesenice, Jezersko, Kamnik, Kranj, Kranjska Gora, Ljubljana, Luče, Maribor, Preddvor, Radovljica, Slovenj Gradec, Solčavsko, Sotočje, and Tržič. Thank you!

We wish you a pleasant ride,

 The CIPRA Slovenia Team
