After the three global mountain research conferences carried out by the Centre for Mountain Studies at Perth, Scotland (2005, 2010 and 2015) the University of Innsbruck, Austria is organizing the next International Mountain Conference, 8-12 September 2019, in Innsbruck.

Application is open:

The Federal Institute for Less-Favoured and Mountainous Areas is contributing to this event through its expertise and will moderate three scientific sessions. Topics focus on

  • The challenges and potentials of demographic change
  • The need to strengthen transformation strategies for mountain regions, and
  • The discussion of social inclusive development, by highlighting gender, generation and diversity as drivers for change.

The description of the topics for the conference is available in the attached document, including specific questions to be addressed in the discussions. As the conference seeks to provide space for a vivid debate on the various session topics we encourage submission of diverse papers on studies and analysis on these themes, reflecting different perspectives of researchers from all parts of the world. We hope that the inter-disciplinary approach raises your interest and will allow an enhanced exploration of relevant issues of mountain research at the conference.

Please feel free to contact the workshop moderators to indicate your interest in submitting respective contribution proposals.
